Diese dreijährige Unterbrechung war aufgrund der Engpässe beim Whiskey notwendig, die Michter”s erfahren hat. „Wir müssen unsere Whiskeys in begrenztem Umfang vertreiben, weil wir einfach nicht genug haben, um die große Nachfrage zu erfüllen’, sagte Joseph J. Magliocco, Präsident von Michter”s. „Aufgrund dieser Situation bei den Erzeugnissen haben wir debattiert, ob wir diese Herausgabe durchführen sollten. Zu guter Letzt haben wir die Entscheidung getroffen, etwas Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon für unsere treuen Kunden, die lautstark ihre Sehnsucht nach diesem Bourbon geäußert haben, herauszugeben.’

Der im Herbst 2014 eingeführte und begeistert angenommene Michter”s US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon ist ein richtungsweisender Whiskey. Er wird gemacht, indem man Michter”s US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon verwendet und diesen dann für einen zusätzlichen Zeitraum in einem zweiten, speziell angefertigten Fass altern lässt. Dieses zweite Fass wird aus Holz gefertigt, das 18 Monate lang luftgetrocknet und dann geröstet, aber nicht versengt wurde. Michter”s Reifungsmeisterin Andrea Wilson stellte fest: „Es ist erstaunlich, wie man den Charakter unseres US*1 Bourbon durch einen zusätzlichen Zeitraum in einem Fass verwandeln kann, dessen Holz gemäß unseren speziellen Vorgaben gekonnt geröstet wurde.’ Michter”s Brennmeister Dan McKee kommentierte: „Ich kann mich an keine von mir geführte Verkostung in letzter Zeit erinnern, bei der mich nicht jemand gefragt hat, wann wir endlich den Toasted Bourbon wieder herausbringen.’

Michter”s Toasted Barrel Bourbon wird bei 45,7 % Alkoholgehalt (91,4 Proof) in Flaschen abgefüllt, was genau dem gleichen Alkoholgehalt entspricht wie Michter”s fortlaufendes Angebot US*1 Small Batch Bourbon. Der empfohlene Einzelhandelspreis des Herstellers liegt bei 60 USD je 750 ml-Flasche in den Vereinigten Staaten. Die Auslieferung durch die Distributoren von Michter”s wird im September 2018 beginnen.

Die Michter”s Distillery befindet sich im Ortsteil Shively von Louisville, Kentucky, dem Herzen der amerikanischen Whiskey-Industrie. Die Brennerei hat ein 59 Hektar großes Areal in Springfield, Kentucky, wo sie ihr hauseigenes, nicht gentechnisch verändertes Getreide für die Whiskey-Herstellung anbaut. The launch sees the product initially stocked in 800 Boots UK stores nationwide and all Whole Foods Market locations in the UK and comes in response to growing consumer demand for sustainable packaged products to minimise plastic pollution.

The packaging is comprised of 82% renewable resources, made mostly of paper from FSC managed forests and is recyclable in nine out of ten UK communities where roadside or bottle bank collecting is available.

JUST contains still spring water, sourced from the firm”s UK bottling partner in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, and is available in a 500ml serving, priced individually at £1.29, or available as part of the Boots Meal Deal, which offers a main, a snack and a drink from £3.39*.

Entry into the UK market comes after rapid growth in the US since its 2015 launch, with JUST becoming the number one selling branded bottled water in its category at Whole Foods Market.

The firm aims to become the most prominent, well-recognised sustainable bottle of water in the UK, offering consumers an alternative to the default plastic packaging for water. Long term, JUST plans to launch a number of socially and environmentally impactful products in both the beverage and non-beverage categories.

Cosa c’è di meglio di sorseggiare un ottimo cocktail in spiaggia? Caldo, mare, relax, amici e amiche attorno a noi e un bel drink fresco da bere tutto di un fiato sulla riva. Cosa vogliamo di più? Vediamo assieme, allora, quali sono i 10 super cocktail da spiaggia nella nostra classifica tutta personale.

Cocktail da spiaggia, i grandi classici

Al primo posto della nostra classifica mettiamo il Daiquiri, un best seller quando parliamo di drink. Originario delle isole caraibiche, è sicuramente nella top 5 dei migliori cocktail da spiaggia in tutto il mondo. Uno dei più famosi e apprezzati, nasce a Cuba e mischia rum e lime, addolcendo tutto con dello zucchero. Noto ai più soprattutto grazie alla passione per questo drink da parte di personaggi famosi come Ernest Hemingway e Francis Scott Fitzgerald. Dietro di lui medaglia d’argento per il Montenegro Negroni, un cocktail italiano al 100% che oggi sta per compiere i suoi primi 100 anni. Uno dei drink, anche questo, tra i più amati in tutto il mondo, sia al bar che in riva al mare. Perfetto per sostituire il classico Campari. Terzo posto per la storica Piña Colada, tra i più dissetanti drink estivi, visto che utilizza il succo di ananas, il rum e la crema di cocco. Originaria di Porto Rico, ma molto amato in tutte le spiagge del mondo. Al quarto posto il Margarita, simbolo del Messico e tra i drink più popolari e venduti in tutto il mondo. La cosa più bella, però, è il mistero che avvolge la sua nascita e la sua storia. Al quinto posto troviamo il Gin Tonic, altro grande classico, inventato dalla British East India Company in India per utilizzare le proprietà antimalariche del chinino.

Qualche idea diversa dal solito

Sesto posto per il Green Iguana, un drink molto fresco e decisamente trascurato e poco noto rispetto ai colleghi evergreen, ma davvero buonissimo. È un cocktail che ha una base di tequila, quindi decisamente forte, con la freschezza del melone e del lime che aggiungono la dolcezza e le vitamine. Una shakerata decisa per mischiare per bene tutti gli ingredienti e il drink è pronto. Va servito ghiacciato. Al settimo posto troviamo un drink non completamente sconosciuto, ma ancora non del tutto apprezzato per le sue grandi potenzialità. Il Mai Tai è quello che potremmo sorseggiare durante un viaggio in Polinesia di lusso, magari organizzato a puntino da specialisti del settore come Travel Design. È uno dei pochissimi drink a combinare rum chiaro e scuro e aggiunge anche l’orange curaçao e l’orzata. Il risultato è piuttosto dolciastro e potrebbe stancare un po’, ma vale la pena provare. Ottavo posto per una proposta poco conosciuta, ma molto antica: si chiama Cape Codder ed è stato tra i primissimi cocktail a usare il succo di mirtillo come ingrediente. Dalle nostre parti e quindi sulle nostre spiagge è più conosciuta la sua variante chiamata Sex on the Beach e, naturalmente, il mitico Cosmopolitan. Al nono posto mettiamo la Caipirinha, drink brasiliano con cachaça, zucchero e lime. Probabilmente il cocktail più da spiaggia della nostra classifica. Infine, anche il Whiskey Sour è sconosciuto ai non amanti del genere. Lo si considera un aperitivo e combina bourbon whiskey, succo di limone e zucchero. Eventualmente si può aggiungere albume d’uovo. Solo per stomaci forti, molto forti.
